1-3/4 c. chicken or vegetable broth

1/2 c. water

1 small onion, chopped (about 1/2 c.)

1 large garlic clove, sliced thinly

1-1/4 t. fresh ginger, peeled and minced

3 T. unsalted butter (or olive oil, for non-dairy eaters)

Chewy Chocolate Brownies

Ingredients:

8 ounces unsweetened chocolate, chopped into small pieces
1 cup butter
5 eggs
3 cups sugar
1 tablespoon vanilla
1 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 1/2 cups chopped walnuts (optional)

Mayan Chocolate Pepper Cookies

Ingredients:
Topping:

1/2 cup sugar
1 tsp cinnamon

Cookies:

3/4 cup shortening
1/2 cup butter, softened
3/4 cup sugar
3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
2  eggs
1 3/4 cups all purpose flour
1 1/4 cups cocoa powder
1 tbsp cinnamon
2 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp pepper
1 pinch cayenne pepper
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350ºF. Line cookie sheets with parchment paper.
